Native American Prayers

Since 2015 I have conducted in-depth research with Canadian millennials, interviewing 33 Canadian millennials who self-identify as spiritual but not religious — in order to better understand their beliefs and practices. As the brain processes sensory experiences, it naturally looks for patterns—and our conscious selves often seek meaning in those patterns. This can lead to the phenomenon known as “cognitive dissonance,” which describes how, once one believes in something, one is strongly inclined to try to explain away anything that conflicts with it.

Specifically pertaining to support for employees with religious/spiritual commitments, Bennett (2008) described four levels of organizational action. The first focuses simply on compliance with laws that protect employees’ rights to express their religion. The second entails normalization strategies that intentionally promote a culture of tolerance for religious expression (e.g., support for employee-led Bible study or meditation groups). “Utilization” describes the third level, in which employees are encouraged to draw from their religious/spiritual meaning systems to inform organizational procedures and goals. The fourth is maximization, which occurs when the organization draws from religious/spiritual meanings of sleeping with hands above head meaning systems to inform the broader organizational mission and ultimate aspirations.

Since even numbers have to do with love and odd numbers communicate truth, four can also symbolize complete love and goodness rather than complete truth. Three and a half often crops up in the Bible as well, and that’s because it’s the next step toward a new stage.

Have you ever felt like there’s a higher force trying to guide you through life? If you’ve noticed a specific number showing up repeatedly in your daily experiences, it might be your very own “angel number.” These numbers hold special meanings and are believed to carry messages from the divine realm. They can offer insights, encouragement, and guidance in your journey. You can uncover your unique angel number using your date of birth and name.

In many cases, the symbol has been used as protection against evil. Stars often take on the role of great spiritual motivators in the public subconscious. Just think of how people say “reach for the stars,” when they talk about striving for your utmost goals. Stars can represent the goals you are moving toward, as well as act as motivating factors. The danger of this concept is that people may use it to justify codependent and abusive behaviors in a relationship.

I’ve discovered that whenever I feel pushed, desperate, or hurried, that’s a signal that I need to apply some temperance. When I am driven to act—by my fear, my need to impress, or my own impossible expectations—I allow my perfectly good passions to run away with me. Passions themselves are not bad, but they were never meant to be in charge either. When millennials say they are seeking to become more spiritual, they are often saying that they are trying to resist this trend.

Taoism has been connected to the philosopher Lao Tzu, who, around 500 B.C.E., wrote the main book of Taoism, the Tao Te Ching. Taoism holds that humans and animals should live in balance sleeping with hands above head the Tao, or the universe. Taoists believe in spiritual immortality, where the spirit of the body joins the universe after death. Raimondo Sinibaldi of the Homo Viator-San Teobaldo Foundation emphasized the spiritual significance of the initiative, saying, “Our mission is to make the arrival in Rome a moment of great spiritual significance.” Your birthday angel number is like a special gift from your angels when you were born.

However, growth in one’s spiritual life emphasizes a continuous journey of discovery, reflection, and connection, which counteract these feelings by infusing one’s spiritual practice with vitality and relevance. One key way spiritual development influences daily life is through enhanced emotional resilience. Individuals who engage in spiritual practices such as meditation, prayer, or mindfulness find they are better equipped to handle stress, anxiety, and adversity. For example, someone who meditates regularly notices a significant decrease in their stress levels, enabling them to approach challenges calmly and centered.
